Let’s kick things off with a big thank-you to my family, friends, and, yes, the saints who’ve been keeping me on track (and occasionally reminding me where the track is). You’ve stuck by my side through thick, thin, and “Lord, help me, what button did I just press?” moments in the making of The Right Path. Your encouragement, prayers, and willingness to laugh at my terrible jokes have been a lifeline.
A New Chapter with GiveSendGo
As of now, The Right Path has found a new home on GiveSendGo. Moving here has been like that moment when you finally switch from instant coffee to the real deal—it just fits better, aligns with my Christian values, and brings a sense of partnership and community.
Let’s talk logistics: my previous donation site had the nerve to go from “free” to an eye-watering $4,000 a year! That’s right—free today, highway robbery tomorrow. Thankfully, GiveSendGo opened its doors just in time, and I couldn’t feel more at home here. It’s not just about funding; it’s about being in a place that gets what I’m trying to do.
A Surprise Call of Faith
Today, October 28, 2024, was one of those “only God could have orchestrated this” days. I got a call flagged as “spam,” so I skipped it (you know the type: “Congratulations, you’ve won an all-expenses-paid… scam!”). But then my wonderful wife, Helen, called, and after we hung up, I noticed a voicemail from the earlier call.
Expecting a typical sales pitch, I was in for a holy surprise. It was a message from the GiveSendGo prayer team—a nearly 4-minute prayer just for The Right Path, Faith Based Games, and the souls this game could touch. By the end, I was in tears. This wasn’t just any prayer; it was like God Himself had whispered, “Hey, I’ve got people lifting this up, too.” It was a reminder that our Lord works in mysterious ways, including through strangers praying over a game that seeks to share a message of hope.
When Will the Game Be Ready?
Ah, the golden question: “When is it done?” Here’s the honest answer: it’ll be ready when God says so. I’ve tentatively set a goal for 2030, but ultimately, it’s in His timing. Right now, I’m eagerly awaiting the kind of technology that can bring this vision to life. Unreal Engine 5 and advances in AI are inching closer every day, and I’m testing features that let characters like Helkena emote naturally and interact fluidly. And, trust me, once you see Helkena Mo’s personality shine through, it’ll be worth the wait!
So, Who is Helkena Mo?
Helkena Mo is more than a protagonist; she’s inspired by my sweet Helen, who’s my anchor, my best friend, and—lucky for me—my better half. But let’s clear up the “Mo” bit. You see, “Mo” is my little pet name for Helen. It’s one of those things that just stuck, like when you try to get rid of glitter, only way better.
Helkena’s story actually started in the early ‘90's. Somewhere along the way, Helen’s name got hilariously mistyped on some junk mail. Suddenly, “Helen” turned into “Helken,” and when video games began allowing custom characters, I started playing as a female character named “Helkena”—a nod to my wife’s strength and character. Over the years, “Helkena Mo” has become a tribute to Helen’s courage, humor, and unwavering faith.
When we faced some serious challenges, Helen was right there, driving me to medical appointments, sacrificing her time, and praying fiercely. Her strength held us together, and I knew if I ever created a game, its hero would carry that same spirit. So The Right Path is, in many ways, Helen’s story, and it’s only fitting that Helkena Mo leads the way.
A Call for Prayer and Support
Yes, I’m talking about funding again. I get it; finances are tight. We feel it too—living on a fixed income, skipping steak nights so we can keep moving forward with this project. Even if you can’t give, your prayers mean the world to us right now.
Already, in just 11 days on GiveSendGo, we’ve raised $125, which is nearly as much as five years on the old platform! That’s a pretty big hint that God has His hands in this. And if each of us keeps praying, I believe we’ll get there. It’s all about timing, technology, and, above all, faith.
Thank you for taking this journey with me. Whether you’re able to give, pray, or just read this post, may our Lord and Savior Jesus bless you abundantly!
Sam
